Suspension

Motorcycle suspension: components and function

The suspension includes the components that connect the wheels to the chassis and help maintain contact with the road, absorb bumps, and control stability while riding. This category covers front and rear components such as forks, cartridges, triple clamps, shocks, springs, seals, dust covers, bushings, suspension linkage, ball joints, control arms, and various mounting or adjustment accessories.

Each part plays a different role in the assembly. Springs provide initial support, while shocks and cartridges control compression and rebound movement. Seals, dust covers, and bushings are associated with smooth movement and protection of internal components; triple clamps, linkage, arms, and ball joints affect the connection and movement between the suspension, wheel, and chassis.

How to choose suspension components

Before buying, check your motorcycle’s exact make, model, year, and version, as well as the mounting position—front or rear—and the side where applicable. Compare the dimensions of the replaced part, mounting type, thread pitch, and housing dimensions with the available technical information. For internal components, also verify that the part belongs to the specific type of fork or shock.

• Intended use: choose the component according to how you typically use the motorcycle and your riding style, without assuming that a part is universal.
• Compatible assembly: check how the spring, shock, cartridge, suspension linkage, and hardware work together to avoid unsuitable combinations.
• Installation: follow the applicable technical instructions and torque specifications; if you work on the suspension, consulting a qualified professional is recommended.
