Motorcycle chain master links
Master links close or repair a motorcycle drive chain when it is replaced, shortened, or serviced. Choose one according to the chain’s specifications: pitch, width, construction, and, where applicable, the presence of seals. A link that looks similar may not fit correctly if it belongs to a different chain size or type.
Before buying, check the identification marked on or specified for the chain and compare it with the link’s product details. Also distinguish between clip-type and rivet-type installation. A clip-style link requires the clip to be fitted in the specified direction and checked for proper seating; a rivet-style link requires the right tool and even riveting of the pins. Do not mix parts with different specifications or reuse a link showing wear, deformation, or damage.
How to choose the right master link
- Chain size: confirm the pitch code and dimensional compatibility before selecting the part.
- Connection type: choose clip or rivet according to the chain design and planned installation procedure.
- Seals: on sealed chains, verify that the link includes or accepts the required sealing elements.
- Installation: check the clip position or rivet finish, then confirm that the link moves freely after installation.
