Motorcycle Handlebars and Clip-Ons
These motorcycle handlebars and clip-ons define hand position, transmit steering inputs, and support grips, controls, levers, and the throttle. A conventional handlebar is a crossbar secured by risers, while clip-ons mount independently on each side, typically around the fork area. Their dimensions and mounting systems are not interchangeable.
Before replacing this component, compare the clamp diameter, width, rise, sweep, and available space for the controls. With clip-ons, also check the fork-clamp diameter, orientation, and clearance from the fuel tank and fairing. Any change in geometry can affect riding position and the routing of cables and brake lines.
What to Check Before Installation
- Type: Identify whether the motorcycle uses a one-piece handlebar or two separate clip-ons.
- Diameters: Verify the center section, bar ends, and, for clip-ons, the fork-clamp diameter.
- Geometry: Compare width, rise, sweep, and angle with the intended setup.
- Controls: Allow enough usable length for grips, switchgear, levers, and the throttle tube.
- Routing: Turn the steering from lock to lock and confirm that nothing becomes tight, rubs, or makes contact.
Installation must maintain proper alignment, control positioning, and the specified torque values. If the change affects ergonomics or requires rerouting lines, check the complete assembly before riding.
