Radiator Guards for Motorcycles
Radiator guards help reduce the risk of damage from stones, branches, mud, and other objects thrown up while riding, especially off-road. They are installed in front of or around the radiator and must allow air to pass through the surface so they do not restrict engine cooling.
To choose the right radiator guard, first confirm that its design matches your motorcycle’s make, model, and year. Also check the mounting system, available mounting points, and clearance around the radiator, fan, hoses, and nearby components. A properly fitted part should not rest against the fins or interfere with routine maintenance.
How to Choose a Radiator Guard
- Compatibility: verify the exact application to avoid modifications or misalignment during installation.
- Construction: consider the grille design, thickness, and stiffness according to the intended use and expected exposure to impacts.
- Cooling: confirm that the opening and airflow area are suitable for the installation.
- Maintenance: prioritize a design that allows dirt to be removed and the radiator to be inspected without complicating routine work.
- Installation: follow the manufacturer’s instructions and tighten the fasteners without forcing the radiator or its mounts.
Before installation, clean the area and check for bent fins, leaks, or damaged mounts. After installation, confirm that there are no vibrations, rubbing, or contact with moving parts. Radiator guards provide an additional barrier but do not replace regular inspection of the cooling system.
