Motorcycle sprockets for secondary drive
Motorcycle sprockets are the toothed component that transfers engine power to the chain in the secondary drive. Choose one together with the drive chain and rear sprocket, since these parts work as a set. This category may include options with different designs, levels of weight reduction, or solutions intended to reduce vibration, but function and compatibility always depend on the motorcycle and its drive setup.
The tooth count affects the gear ratio: changing it can alter throttle response, engine speed, and final gearing. For this reason, do not replace the sprocket based only on its appearance or an approximate measurement. Also check the chain pitch and width, output shaft spline, retention system, and available space around the sprocket.
How to choose the right sprocket
- Check the size currently installed and the specification intended for your motorcycle.
- Verify that the tooth count is compatible with the rear sprocket and chain you plan to use.
- Check the sprocket profile, offset, inner diameter, and retention system.
- Inspect secondary-drive wear: pairing a new sprocket with a worn chain or rear sprocket can accelerate wear across the set.
- After installation, adjust chain tension according to the motorcycle manufacturer's instructions and verify that alignment is correct.
