Motorcycle lighting: parts and accessories
Motorcycle lighting includes the components that improve the vehicle’s visibility and signal its maneuvers. This category includes headlights, taillights and brake lights, turn signals, auxiliary lighting, bulbs, LED technology, covers, brackets, wiring, switches, and mounting accessories.
Before choosing a motorcycle part, identify its function and check that its design, mounting points, and connections match those of the motorcycle. A headlight is not selected using the same criteria as a turn signal or license plate light: each part must occupy the correct position, offer a compatible connection, and be securely installed.
How to choose lighting components
- Electrical compatibility: check the specified voltage, connector type, polarity where applicable, and the circuit’s allowable load.
- Mounting: check the mounting points, available space, part diameter or format, and any required brackets or hardware.
- Function: distinguish between low beam, high beam, running light, brake light, turn signal, and auxiliary signaling to avoid choosing the wrong component.
- Road use: verify that the component is suitable for public-road use and meets the approval requirements applicable to its function and location.
- Installation: protect the wiring, avoid strain on the connectors, and check that all lights work before riding the motorcycle.
When replacing a bulb or a complete assembly, consult the motorcycle’s specifications and compare the replacement’s characteristics with the removed part. This helps reduce installation errors and maintains clear signaling while riding.
