Base Layers

Technical Motorcycle Base Layers

Technical base layers are the first layer of motorcycle gear, worn under shirts, jackets, pants, or protective equipment. They improve comfort while riding, reduce direct contact between seams and skin, and help maintain an appropriate feel based on temperature, ride intensity, and intended use.

This category includes garments for different areas of the body: base-layer shirts and pants, helmet liners, neck gaiters, and socks or stockings. Each format addresses a specific need, from covering the head and neck under a helmet to helping boots and protective gear fit more comfortably.

How to Choose a Base Layer

• Use and weather: Consider whether you need it for commuting, long rides, sport riding, or off-road activities. The garment's thickness and coverage should suit the temperature and work with your other layers.
• Fit: Check the size chart and choose a garment that fits close to the body without restricting movement or creating excessive pressure. At the neck, wrists, and ankles, pay particular attention to the finish so it does not interfere with your helmet, gloves, or boots.
• Gear compatibility: Make sure the base layer's bulk does not hinder the closure of your jacket, pants, or protective equipment. Seamless garments or flat seams may be suitable when reducing friction is a priority, depending on the design.
• Care: Review the washing and drying instructions before buying. Proper care helps preserve the shape and intended properties specified by the manufacturer.

To choose well, first decide which areas you want to cover and what garments you will wear over them. Then review the composition, sizing, construction, and usage recommendations provided for each item.
