Motorcycle knee braces: protection and fit
Knee braces are protective gear designed to cover the knee while riding, especially on off-road, enduro, motocross, or mountain bike routes. They help limit direct contact with the ground, rocks, and other obstacles, but do not replace safe riding or the rest of your protective equipment.
Before choosing motorcycle knee braces, consider how you will use them and how much mobility you need. Lighter designs prioritize freedom of movement and can be practical for longer rides, while more wraparound models provide greater coverage around the joint and the lower thigh or upper leg. Always base your choice on the product’s actual features and the manufacturer’s instructions.
How to choose the right knee braces
- Size and fit: measure your leg according to the applicable sizing chart and check that the brace fits securely without pinching, excessive looseness, or shifting when you bend your knee.
- Mobility: make sure it allows you to operate the controls and maintain your usual riding position without unnecessarily restricting knee flexion.
- Retention: check the fastening system and straps, and make sure the braces are easy to put on and remove, including when worn with the rest of your gear.
- Coverage: confirm exactly which areas are protected and whether the design works with your pants, boots, and other protective gear.
- Intended use: distinguish between a flexible option for training and frequent travel and a more structured form of protection for demanding terrain.
Follow the fitting instructions and regularly inspect the stitching, fasteners, and protective elements. If the brace has become deformed, shows visible damage, or no longer maintains a secure fit, replace it.
