Motorcycle Fluids

Motorcycle fluids: uses and selection

Motorcycle fluids are used for various maintenance and setup tasks, especially for air filters, forks, shocks, and hydraulic brake or clutch systems. Each application requires a product with specific characteristics, so products should not be exchanged between systems without first checking the motorcycle or component manufacturer’s instructions.

For suspension components, the stated viscosity grade helps you choose the right fluid for the fork or shock. For air filters, the product must match the filter type and the recommended maintenance method. For hydraulic brakes and clutches, confirm whether the system uses mineral fluid and follow the specified standard; do not confuse it with other hydraulic fluids.

What to check before buying

• Application: identify whether the fluid is intended for suspension, an air filter, a brake, a clutch, or another specific task.
• Specification: check the viscosity grade, fluid type, and the instructions in the manual or from the component manufacturer.
• Format: calculate the amount needed for the maintenance you plan to perform and keep the container properly sealed.
• Compatibility: do not mix products or replace one fluid with another based only on appearance or viscosity.
