Inner Tubes

Motorcycle inner tubes: how to choose the right one

Motorcycle inner tubes fit inside certain tires to maintain pressure and allow the wheel to work correctly. They are common on dirt bikes, trials bikes, enduro motorcycles, mopeds, and other vehicles with compatible wheel assemblies. Start your selection with the measurements shown on the tire sidewall and the rim specifications. Do not confuse diameter with width or profile.

Before buying an inner tube, check that its dimensions match the tire and that the tire valve type and orientation match the rim opening. Also consider the intended use: a standard inner tube may suit different needs than a reinforced version designed for demanding terrain. The marking on the removed tube can provide guidance, but compare it with the tire’s current size.

What to check before installation

• Read every number on the tire sidewall and verify that the inner tube covers those measurements.
• Confirm the tire valve format and position to prevent tension or rubbing during installation.
• Inspect the rim, rim tape, and inside of the tire. Remove burrs, sharp objects, and dirt.
• Check the inner tube before installation, and do not fit it if it has cuts, deformation, or visible damage.
• After installation, make sure it is seated without pinching, then adjust pressure according to the tire or motorcycle manufacturer’s instructions.

If you change the tire or alter how you use the motorcycle, check inner tube compatibility again. A seemingly close size does not guarantee a correct fit: the diameter, width, tire valve, and available space must work together.
